IR Tea Social – Dr. Fredrik Logevall

The Tea Social is back! We are taking advantage of the pandemic to enjoy opportunities for some conversations via Zoom with people well beyond the UBC community. On Monday, October 26, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. (Pacific time), Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Fredrik Logevall of Harvard University will join us for an informal discussion about U.S. presidential politics, the writing of presidential biographies, and the current U.S. election.

Professor Logevall is the Laurence D. Belfer Professor of International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Professor of History in the Harvard history department. His new biography of John F. Kennedy, JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956, has just been published by Random House. He is one of the world’s leading historians on the history of the cold war, particularly the political decision making surrounding the U.S. war in Vietnam. His book Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam (Random House, 2012), won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for History, among numerous other awards.

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to win a Pulitzer Prize, or if you’re interested in chatting about the writing process, presidential politics, and this year’s political challenges in the United States, please make yourself a cup of tea and join us! Space is limited, however, in order to facilitate a relaxed, informal conversation. Please click here to RSVP and receive Zoom access instructions on a first-come-first-served basis. We will be inviting only the first 20 students who RSVP to attend. We look forward to seeing you!
