IR Tea Social – Dr. Valerie Sperling

_

We are very pleased to announce our latest Tea Social speaker, Dr. Valerie Sperling, who will be joining us for a Zoom-hosted Tea Social on Tuesday November 24th from 12:00pm – 1:00pm (PST).

Valerie Sperling is Professor of Political Science at Clark University. Her research lies mainly at the intersection of Russian politics and gender studies. She is the author of Sex, Politics, & Putin: Political Legitimacy in Russia (2015), which won the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) Davis Center Book Prize for the “outstanding monograph on Russia, Eurasia, or Eastern Europe in anthropology, political science, sociology or geography,” as well as the Association for Women in Slavic Studies (AWSS) Heldt Prize for the “Best book in Slavic/Eastern European/Eurasian Women’s Studies.”  She is also co‐author with Lisa Sundstrom of the 2019 book, Courting Gender Justice: Russia, Turkey, and the European Court of Human Rights . Sperling’s most recent book, co‐authored with her Clark colleague, Robert Boatright, is Trumping Politics as Usual: Masculinity, Misogyny, and the 2016 Elections (2020). She will tell us a bit about this latest book, reflecting on how gender dynamics have played out in the 2020 US election campaign. Please grab a cup of tea and join us for a discussion of this topic and any other questions you may have about her other areas of research!

Please click here to RSVP and receive Zoom access instructions on a first-come-first-served basis. We will be inviting only the first 20 students who RSVP to attend. We look forward to seeing you!
