Whether you’re returning to UBC for your final or penultimate year or are new to the IR Major, there are events happening in the next few weeks for you! The aim for these events, and the others that will come throughout the year, is for you to meet your peers in IR whom you may not get to meet in your classes. The connections that you build with others in IR can be helpful now – for studying, for socializing, for people to talk “IR” with – and they can be helpful later too when you set out into the world of work. So we hope you come join us for these and for other events later in the year!
On Wednesday, September 4th is IR Inform and the Welcome (back) Social. IR Inform is specifically for new majors as we welcome you into the program and give you some highlights of the program and things you should know about. Following this, the Welcome (back) Social is for all IR Majors, and even alumni who would like to join, and will be a casual time of talking over food appies and desserts. IR Inform is set to run from 5-5:30 and the Social from 5:30-7:30. More information can be found on the Facebook event.
On Saturday, September 14th is IR Connect. This event is specifically for students new to the IR Major and is limited in attendance so register soon! This event will run from 10-2:30 (with breakfast served from 9:30-10) and will give you an opportunity to meet your cohort of IR peers and connect with IR alumni, professors, and 4th year students. The activities are designed to get you situated in the program and have you set out into your first year in IR in the best way possible.
